Back Pain

Back Pain

The greatest responsibility a trainer has to a client is to look after them, to keep them safe. Achieving fitness goals in some cases must take a back seat to safety.

Long term lower back pain is estimated to effect 70 to 80 per cent of the Australian population (Blyth FM, March LM, Brnabic AJ, Jorm LR, Williamson M, Cousins MJ. Chronic pain in Australia: a prevalence study. Pain 2001 Jan;89(2-3):127-34). There has been other research that quotes an estimated 10 per cent of the population suffer major disability associated with lower back in any six month period. These are significant numbers of people suffering from long term pain and discomfort even on a low level. Fitness training specifically designed to cater to and strengthen the back is a big part of what Meg specialises in with personal training one on one sessions. Improving back health and learning to manage that pain has a multitude of benefits;

  1. A decrease in pain both chronic and episodic will significantly boost mental health
  2. Reduce the reliance on potentially harmful anti-inflammatory drugs
  3. Improve body posture and therefore relieve the pain of associated issues as as knee pain and upper back pain
  4. Begin the process of better managing weight which often creeps up when lower back pain reduces the ability to exercise comfortably.

With the extra training Meg has done and hands on experience she has been able to improve the health outcomes for all her clients suffering with lower back pain and upper back and neck issues.

If you have been reluctant to exercise because of back pain or are just sick of disabling episodes of pain then call Meg to have a chat about the suitability of the 12 week personal training back care program.

"Many of the issues stem from an imbalance between what our lifestyle demands of us and what is actually good for our bodies. Once the body is out of balance; something becomes tight where it needs flexibility, or an injury hasn't been well looked after perhaps, that imbalance causes pain as the body attempts to keep balance. Something is gonna give eventually!"
